The 1966-1967 English Football League Division 1 was won by Manchester United. This gave Matt Busby his second title of the sixties, United having also won the 1964-1965 English Football League 1st Division title. Matt Busby would eventually retire as manager in 1969 however this was after United would go on to win the 1968 European Cup. An emotional moment for all those involved with the Old Trafford club especially for those who lived through their darkest hour at Munich. Busby would be awarded a Knighthood after their triumph in Europe in 1968. In 1980 Busby would be elected President of Manchester United. He passed away in 1994, on what would have been his 90th Birthday United secured their famous treble.

Jack Charlton of Leeds United was elected 1966-1967 English Football Writers player of the year. The centre-back was the heart of a tough tackling Leeds United side. He was also a member of the 1966 England side that lifted the football World Cup. Charlton would go on to famously manage the Irish national team; he was manager from 1985- 1995. His 1967 Footballer of the Year is notable for the fact that he was precede by his brother Bobby Charlton the season before, the first time this has happened. It was Southamptonís Welsh International Ron Davies who topped the goal scoring charts with 37 goals. Famed for his heading ability a lot of his goals were scored that way. He had joined from Norwich City in 1966; he would stay at Southampton till 1972.
