English Football League

The English football league is a series of 140 leagues, containing over 480 divisions. The English football league structure is formed similar to a pyramid. This interconnected structure consists of 'promotion' and 'relegation' which allows any football team (even the smallest town amateur teams) to rise to the pinnacle of the pyramid structure & become champions of the Premier League.

The top five levels of the English Football league contains one division each. These levels have altered their names through the last 20 years from division 1 to be renamed as 'the premiership' and division 2 as 'the championship' and division 3, many years ago, used to be split into a north and south divide.

This site focuses on the top 4 English League divisions from 1950 division 1, 1950 division 2, 1950 division 3 north, and 1950 division 3 south, through to 2008 live premiership league and the 2008 live championship league. The complete list of league tables are referenced in the quick links below, and at the top of the footy facts site thoughout the English league division section.
