The 1954/55 Division 1 Champions of the English Football league were Chelsea; the champions of the previous Season Wolverhampton Wanderers came second. Wolves' would be dubbed by many Champions of the Football world after famous victories over two of the great European sides of the era, beating Russian Football giants Spartak Moscow and Hungarian team Honved whose most famous player of the time was world Football Legend Ferenc Puskas.
Future Leeds United and English national football team manager Don Revie was voted 1954-55 English Football Wrtiters Association Footballer of the year. Revie at this time played as a striker for Manchester City, Revie would take Leeds United to the pinnacle of English Domestic Football winning the 1968-69 English Football League Division 1 Championship repeating this triumph during the 1973/75 English Football Leagues First Division season also adding the 1973 English Football Association Cup to complete the domestic double. His only major trophy as a player was winning the 1956 English Football Association Cup the season subsequent to 1954-1955. Ronnie Allen topped the scoring charts during the English Football League Division 1 season with 27 league goals for West Bromwich Albion. Allen would go on to football manage the Albion on two separate occasions.
