It would have been a brave man to have gambled against Manchester United winning the 1956/57 English Football League First Division. They proved a wise football bet and the collective brilliance of 'The Busby Babes' really did shine through. Duncan Edwards was complemented by the likes of Dennis Viollet and Roger Byrne. With them adding to the 1955/56 English League Division 1 championship it really did look like this United team would go on to dominate English domestic football for the next few years.

Tom Finney would add to the honour of being English Football Writers Association for 1954 by winning the nomination again in 1957. One of the few players to gain this award more than once, this great English Football statistic cements Finney's place the greats of the beautiful game, he would be knighted a Sir in 1998 to add to the O.B.E. he was awarded in 1961. Leeds United's John Charles would top the scoring charts putting away an astonishing 38 goals. The Welshman would join Italian football greats Juventus, at which ever club John played for he would score goals and was a firm fans favourite, the Juventus fans nicknamed him 'the Gentle Giant'.
